Gary O. Holman
Gary O. Holman, 86, of Demopolis went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 12:34 a.m. on March 29, 2025. He was born in Tuscaloosa on August 27, 1938, and lived all of his life in Alabama. He loved everything about Alabama, especially football. His love of Alabama football and children influenced him to coach young boys in football. He taught them football but also discipline, respect, and sportsmanship. Now today, those young boys are men and remember the influence that Mr. Gary had on their lives. Gary loved Fairhaven Baptist Church.
He was a member almost from the start of the church. Supporting the church through his presence and gifts were always forefront in his mind. You could always count on Gary to wear one of his best suits to church on Sunday, because he said GOD gave him HIS best so he should give GOD his best. The children at Fairhaven school remember him for his encouragement and upbeat attitude. He was always ready with a “High Five” for every child coming down the hall. On rainy days, he was there with an umbrella and a sunny smile. With Gary around, the children could not have a bad day, even though they were in school. The single most memorable aspect of Gary was his humor. He always had a great story and was quick with a laugh. There are still stories being told about Gary Holman wherever he went. He was a character! His personality will be missed by generations of friends and family. Gary would have summed up his life as “Gooder than snuff at a dollar a dip.”
Visitation for Gary was April 1, 2025, at Fairhaven Baptist Church in Demopolis. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Rev. Dennis Walker officiated and Kirk Funeral Homes, Demopolis Chapel directed.
